Beautiful deep patination from old figured walnut. Complete original eight silver top jars, part non original sewing set and concealed mirror behind top padded section (release catch no longer present, needs small metal edge such as knife to press against mechanism) Sterling silver tops made in London and dated London 1860/1, by silversmith maker George Brace est: Secret pop out jewellery tray. Sewing set later addition hallmarked for Birmingham and I think 1898, still an item missing though and a CH marked - usually denotes Charles Horner and No. 7 for size Thimble, no silver marks but a Rd Number. Some damage to external box and two bottles/jars that I cannot get the stoppers off. Most damage to box at rear, cracks to veneer and loss of edging. Very presentable but NOT perfect. Bottles themselves all in good condition with internal stoppers, however i cannot get on internal stopper out or unscrew one of the small circular bottles. I have let them alone and they have some earlier contents inside. Internal blue silk lining in fairly excellent original condition, some discoloring but given age surprisingly good, secret jewellery drawer opens via button by name plate. Excellent strong springs for top concealed compartment and bottom. Dark blue new felt applied to base as original past saving and to protect surfaces. No key. DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT Height/Length 6.75" Width/Diameter 9"x12" Weight 4800gs - will be over 2kgs packed so will be expensive to ship overseas. MAKE Makers mark inside box and silver tops fully marked up on most bottles CONDITION Overall present well, however such a large old and complex item has not come through the last 150 yrs without wear and tear. Sewing set is incomplete and a later addition, scissors have had a repair. Beading edges of rear part and other areas of box missing and some cracks in wood. Top 'secret' section that hides the leather backed mirror required knife edge ( of similar thin metal item) against mechanism to release, No key. some wear to silk in bottom hidden jewellery tray. Two silver bottles I cannot get lids off. Condition: Some damage to external box, internally mostly very good.
