Georgian Garnet and Seed Pearl Mourning Brooch in Unmarked Gold This is a lovely example of a Georgian Mourning brooch.  A small, glazed central panel of woven hair is surrounded by a border of tiny, lustrous seed pearls, pinch claw set in miniature, which are in turn, bordered by 10 flat-cut garnets of c 5mm diameter, pinch set and backed in gold, giving them a depth and brightness of colour, which is a glorious shade of pinkish red.  The back is fully covered with gold, pierced around the inner edge between the garnets and pearls and has been mounted with a gold ring, giving one the option to wear this beautiful little piece as a pendant.  The pin, hinge and clasp are very strong and look to be possibly replacements, although still period.  The gold is unmarked, as is typical of the Georgian era and is a really nice golden yellow.  The large, flat facets of the garnets really catch the light and flash with red fire, while the tiny seed pearls are well matched and not discoloured, forming a heavenly halo around the hair-work memento to the centre. 21mm x 17mm Weight 3.7g Please see the pics for exact condition detail Price includes free singed-for postage More antique and vintage jewellery here: Al*chemist's Cave | eBay Stores
