Please note the weights, whilst still bright and shiny, do have some age deterioration top and bottom, I hope this is clear from the photos, and the top of the weight pictured right in particular has lifted – they have been like this for years. The clock has been in the family and working well for many many decades and for the last few years the chimes have been turned off as they sounded too loud after downsizing home. I do not know how the chimes were turned off and have been carefully looking (without tinkering!) to see if there is a switch or lever. So far I have found a large lever to the rear right with German(?) writing on which engages (up)/disengages(down) the chime hammers and then a smaller lever close behind the clock face, also on the right, which will perform a short tuneful chime when switched down. I think it has a Westminster chime. I have not found how to get the strike and chimes turned back on yet but am seeking advice on this and will update the auction again as soon as possible to confirm progress. In the meantime, if you would like any more information or pictures please let me know and I will do my best to help. On 26-Feb-20 at 21:56:35 GMT, seller added the following information: FURTHER UPDATE: After having another careful look over the clock mechanism and asking for advice, we are still none the wiser on how to get the strike and chimes turned on to work with the time. We thought it would be straightforward (perhaps it is and we are missing something!) so we have left it as it is. It looks as though it will need someone who knows more about this type of grandfather clock mechanism to get them up and running. *To confirm, the clock is working and there is a lever that will give a short burst of Westminster chimes, however the strike and chimes are not currently switched on to work in conjunction with the time* As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask, I'm happy to help.Sub-Type:Grandfather, Age:Antique, Post-1900, Clock Type:Longcase/ Grandfather Clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme:Art Deco, Type:Longcase/ Grandfather Clock, Features:Chimes
