Seller: trustawhile (227) 100%, Location: Cambridgeshire , Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 153246487923 A rare barn find of a Regency fusee convex dial clock by the very interesting clockmaker and inventor Jacob Hankins of Farningham who also invented a spring driven propeller . There are reams of information regarding this man, not only of his invention of the propeller, but there is a fullsome account relayed at the Old Bailey in 1826 , of his being robbed by his employee John Gardner Mountjoy, of a watch , thimbles, rings, a spoon, gold pins, watch hands etc...he was convicted of grand larceny and transported to New South Wales . This clock has original hands ,dial, glass, and bezel..and mahogany case...some restoration needed ..The name is easy to see on close inspection, and could be sensitively retouched..the movement is complete and there seems to be nothing wrong with it.....The plates have nicely shaped shoulders..The small door underneath is missing...Rare to find in original condition ...would not post because of the vulnerability of the glass etc, but will deliver within 40 miles for cost of fuel, or will pack well for your courier
