Really unusual and beautifully made matching sofa with 2 chairs.
Believed to be late 18th century or early 19th century French.
These have been passed down to me by my late Uncle (about 30 years ago) and they have been sitting in our spare room ever since.
Although useable I would say that they are possibly in need of a little sympathetic TLC and possibly re-upholstering. This type of furniture is normally seen in a museum or stately home
Condition is generally good considering age but the fabric is now very faded/worn and the hand carved woodwork could do with cleaning and restoring back to its former glory.
There is slight movement between the frame joining the rear legs/back of the chair to the seat on one chair (in need of re-bonding) and on the other chair has the pip on the very top of the back post missing (see last photo) otherwise it’s all there.
We have considered getting them repaired and re-upholstered but to restore them using period materials is very expensive and if we go with modern it would probably spoil their charm.
Viewing highly recommended in Winkfield near Windsor
