*From research, Independence Ironstone was a line of dinnerware produced by Castleton China/Shenango China and later the large Interpace Corporation. Somewhere in Independence's history, production was moved from the USA (Pennsylvania?) to Japan. In 1968 Interpace acquired Castelton/Shenango. However, the backstamp on this set of dishes says MADE IN USA and does not have Interpace or Shenango or Castleton on the stamp. Because of these omissions in the back stamp the assumption was made that Independence was a smaller company that merged with or was bought out by Castleton/Shenango and/or the larger Interpace Corp. during the 1960s. Thus, the estimate of production for this set to be in the 1950s to early 1960s. (if you have more informed knowledge of this IND8 pattern and dish set, please contact me)
