The public house was situated at 1,High St. Mile Town, Sheerness, It must have been an important building because there are records of Court Proceedings and Inquests being held there from 1827 onwards. In 1881, it had a name change to The Magdala and in 1891 was later named The Railway Hotel.The style of this tall footed mug was in use around 1830 to 1850. It is 12.5 cm. in height and weighs 522 gms. It has no maker's name but on the rim near the handle is stamped the image of "Odin's Horse" which was the verification mark for Kent County used from 1826 to 1879. It has a hollow "Oozy tongue and pip" handle with an "Attention" terminal. There is damage to the lower part of the handle which consist of a few small dents "( see photo)" but overall apart from this, the tankard is clean and sturdy. The name of "Shipwrights Arms Sheerness" is engraved on the outer base.
