A JAS Shoolbred & Co late Victorian to early Edwardian Mahogany fall front bureau with fitted interior raised on cabriole supports. The bureau is made from mahogany which has a good rich grain patination and great colour. The bureau is formed with the fall front and drawers being done in book matched quarterly veneer. To the base it is set with three storage drawers. When you open the bureau the support arms come out at the same time to support the front. It has lots of pigeon holes for storage.


In nice antique condition with wear commensurate with age as expected. once side has lightened over time usually due to being placed by a window.


Complete with key and all locks functional.


James Shoolbred and Co., also known as Jas Shoolbred, was established in the 1820s at 155 Tottenham Court Road. Initially a drapers for the furniture trade, the company transitioned to designing, manufacturing, and selling high-quality furniture in the late 1860s/early 1870s. Their sophisticated designs were influenced by Regency aesthetics, incorporating Greek and Roman styles. Shoolbred's sales catalogue provided Victorian homeowners with guidance on creating aesthetically pleasing room sets. By the 1880s, they had opened London's first large department store on Tottenham Court Road. In the mid-1880s, Shoolbred received a Royal Warrant for their furniture quality. The company ceased trading in 1931.
