Artist Biography: Joel Owen, aka Francis E Jamieson (1895-1950). Francis E Jamieson was an English painter who became obsessed with painting highland and coastal landscapes and was one of the most prolific artists of his time. He was contracted to paint exclusively for various furniture stores painting scenes on furniture. To sell more paintings privately undetected by his employers, he painted under eleven known aliases, including J McGregor, Graham Williams, Henry Stewart, HB Davis, W Richards, Aubrey Ramus, Stanley Penn, A de Perrin and Phil-Hipps. Framed: No. Condition: The paintings are in good condition for their age. The painting with the masted vessels has a 2mm chip to the paint lower left. The painting of cliffs has a 5mm puncture lower right and 10mm mark to the paint in the blue sky. They are on slightly twisted stretchers which should resolve with framing and correctly tightened stretcher bars. The backs of both paintings appear improbably clean, there is no dust and minimal signs of ageing.
