Many thanks,
G.G. Weiner, o.t.r., i.a.m., c.s.m.a.
Provenance:
This particular mascot came from a French (deceased) collector's estate that we negotiated for over many months, competition from rival traders and probably well-known collectors who all had to put in sealed bids. It was displayed on this particular Bugatti cars' radiator at the Retromobile classic car show in Paris. It is listed along with the others in the book Unique Lalique Mascots by G.G. Weiner. End of this listing. - Also, we secured the following from this collection that are also offered for sale: Dear Valued C ollector, We have recently returned from a wonderful week in Paris at the long running Retromobile classic car show. On the Monday we had an appointment with the solicitors (Avocat) handling the (deceased) collectors' estate. After many months of negotiation through emails and phone calls we have secured the very best of his Lalique hood ornaments against rival bids from throughout the world! These are now offered to discerning collectors and investors to cherish and enjoy.
The French Collection:
Including not one but two Hiboux and two Comète's!
These are from the (deceased) collectors estate negotiated and now agreed prices which were achieved from 'sealed bids'. This person enjoyed Bugatti sports cars and had one with a Lalique rampant and dancing Elephant mascot mounted onto the radiator cap. Also a Type 57 coupe where a damaged Hibou (Owl) mascot was retrieved after an accident. This is now offered complete on its original Bugatti metal radiator cap base.
1. His prized Hibou (Great Owl, this is NOT the small Chouette, or baby owl). The very best example we have seen, perfect mint state, no damage, cracks, chips, or any re-polishing whatsoever! Correctly stencilled 'R. Lalique France' signature to the base.
2. The damaged example as above. This is still mounted onto its chromed metal radiator cap base, after all this time!
3. On offer is this very rare 'Epsom' (Horse Head) car mascot in the form of a straining horse's head trying to win the Epsom Derby! Correctly signed 'R. Lalique France' intaglio signature to the base of the piece.
It is mounted onto a Breves Galleries radiator mounting base and in turn display mounted onto a plastic (or Bakelite) plinth with a factory-made plaque having the catalogue *number engraved on a circular metal plate.
*The same catalogue number was engraved to the underside of the base of the piece at the Lalique factory after the piece was inspected and approved for sale.
4. An extremely rare and unique Rolls-Royce 90th anniversary trophy based on the Silver Ghost Spirit of Ecstasy car mascot. One of two known factory prototype pieces which has a lot more detail in the casting than the (limited edition) run of 200 produced as these were the first out of the mould. Signed engraved 'Lalique France' in scrolling script. It comes complete in its Lalique grey box with certificate and all paperwork.
5. Plus we have a very rare and limited edition Cire Perdu (lost wax process) of a Éléphant dansant (dancing Elephant) car mascot, this is mounted onto its Lalique metal plinth. This we believe was taken directly off one of his Bugatti cars in his collection, as shown in the image here.
6. Comète car mascot in a clear finish with a flaming tail behind the star. This is correctly signed 'R. Lalique' in intaglio with engraved 'France' underneath this (to denote an export piece prior to leaving the glass works). Mounted onto a metal radiator cap base. Another similar one with a varied signature is also available.
7. Finally among the collection is this very fine opalescent Vitesse car mascot, intaglio signed onto the base. It's the very best example we have handled with an intense orange glow when held up to the light!
>A superb Renard is still in negotiation with some other select pieces<
Some examples are shown here (above) with this listing.

Note: The date on the camera is incorrect as the settings re-adjust to the purchase date of the camera? The last image shows the author holding an Epsom mascot with a contemporary portrait of R. Lalique. This new book is due out in early 2025. Information of this publication can be found on our website.
Please see our website for images and the prices of these fabulous collector/investment pieces which in our opinion are the very best on the market and probably the very finest and remarkable pieces in the world of Lalique!
