Seller: jamwoirs (656) 100%, Location: Bishop's Stortford, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 122531077486 Type: Longcase/ Grandfather Clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme: Georgian, Material: Mahogany, Age: Antique, Pre-1900, Features: 8-Day, Details: A very nice quality and excellent condition mahogany cased longcase clock by John Waldron of Cornhill, London, circa 1765. A John Waldron was apprenticed in 1756 to Joseph Dudds, and freed in 1763 John Waldron's will is available from the national archives Kew The movement is a very good five pillar, 8 day movement in fully overhauled condition. Movement, dial, and case all contemporary. (I have added a photo of the seat board shifted aside a little from the cheek. The nails/fixings removed to ease removal of movement) It has a strike/silent feature with a one piece silvered engraved dial with recessed seconds dial. The hands are nicely blued. The case is in excellent original condition with maintenance repairs carried out by a BAFRA accredited restorer. All joints and parts are sound, the hood fits well, the locks work and all is as it should be. The trunk door and base panel are veneered in a nicely figured flame mahogany veneer. The polish is in fine condition with a good great patina. The hood has brass reeded pillars with brass bases, capitals and finials with an arched top and a cresting. The glazing is lovely old glass. There are naturally the typical blemishes and imperfections to be expected of a 200+ year old item, if I were to be critical I would draw attention to the horizontal ripple in the base front panel and the very slight misalignment within the arch of the hood moulding. Overall this is a very handsome, nicely proportioned clock with nothing to detract from its desirability. Dimensions: height 232cm including 12cm finial widest point 50cm depth 25cm Please ask regarding delivery and set up. The movement can be offered with a year guarantee in terms of its present overhauled state. Any questions please message me or call 07443943699. This clock is offered for sale elsewhere. I have two further unusual and equally nice longcase clocks available for sale.
