Seller: pink*salvage (1,171) 100%, Location: Lancaster, California, Ships to: US, CA, GB, AU, Item: 141734976182 Antique Ansonia Spelter STATUE ~INDUSTRY~VERY HTF Material: Spelter Age: 1904 Reference: Ansonia Clocks and Watches, Ly, Page 665, No. 2865Overall Size: 11 1/4" High Description: This is a very desirable and hard to find Ansonia statue that rarely comes up for sale and she is much larger than she appears in the photo. The casting is an extremely high quality, with a great amount of detail you will not find with most other statue makers of the era. Ansonia's chief designer for the time was Henry Davies, and as you can see, he was a master craftsman. The Industry statue is more often seen on one of the Ansonia statue clocks with the side tower, but this one was specifically made as a topper. There are no mounting holes in the bottom and there is an original metal plate on the bottom of the chair which is usually added to the larger toppers for weight. This topper, which is not often found, is usually the topper for the Sibyl base, but will work for other Ansonia clocks since Ansonia did a sort of mix and match and they allowed you to pick the topper of choice when you purchased the clock. The statue has a time worn patina and all of the original bronze finish is gone - down to the base metal. As you can see from the photos there are several repairs to the piece. First is the back of the chair (correctly soldered and pinned). The right index finger has been re-made exactly using brass. The top of the scepter has been exactly re-made using brass and the bottom of the rear right leg has been repaired right where it connects to the bottom of the chair. There is also a very small hole on the back of the chair base that will need minor attention before finishing (pipe putty or epoxy) will do the job.I have to say, I have been collecting Ansonia clocks for many years and I have never seen such perfect and professional repair work, ever. Whoever did the repairs absolutely knew what they were doing and I only wish I knew where this person lived because I have a ton of work for him to do. The repairs are so well done, and done properly, that once you put a finish on this piece I doubt you even be able to detect the repairs. If you have never tried to solder spelter, it is very very difficult and usually only a person with a lot of experience and training can accomplish it with these kind of results.
