Its so beautiful and peaceful, with unpolluted air, undestroyed nature and wild life, something you can't find easily anywhere else while you also have all the amenities of the village. It's only 100 metres walk to the lake with a small child friendly beach, (there are more beaches around the lake), large green areas for picnics and play time. There are several designated grill areas as well as playgrounds. You can keep a rowing boat or canoe here and it's free fishing! There are several walking paths to enjoy near the lake, one direction follows the river from the lake through the village the other goes around the lake, (10 km) where you can pick berries and mushrooms and see wild animals in their habitat. At the local farms and surrounding villages you can buy locally produced food and pick strawberries. This is a safe and child friendly place where you can feel relaxed and enjoy outdoor life... Also, the sunset by the lake is magical!Opposite the house is an old train-station where you can rent dressins for cycling along the rails for miles and miles through the untouched forest. There is a variety of artistic and cultural activity going on in the village with the local craftsmen selling handmade goods, as well as several community run museums and galleries and a few quirky shops, cafes, and eateries. As everything you need is in the village, you won't need to go far for anything, this way you can be sure to escape the stresses of city life and truly enjoy rural life, without being cut off from everything you need as so often is the case when you find a house. You don't even need a car here. There is plenty of things for kids too do and the outdoor life is great, you can even keep your own small boat at the lake or get some canoes! Apart from this being the perfect summer residence, or permanent home, you can also run your own business using the space in the basement. Or rent out for an extra income. Why Sweden? Outdoor life, healthy lifestyle, child friendly and the weather would be at the top, the summers are hot but not too hot... temp is around 20-30 perfect for being active but also enjoy relaxation and play at the many beaches and lakes. There are also lots of activities and play areas for children all around, its a very child friendly country and there are always plenty to do for free, so its surprisingly cheap to keep kids happy. What about the high prices then, well its not as expensive as its reputation, nowadays its like any other European place, city prices are completely different compared to the much more affordable country life. It is still expensive to drink, smoke and go clubbing as well as eating at city restaurants all being classes as luxuries while clothes and furniture for instance can be a lot cheaper than the UK, so its all about finding the balance. Being sensible and checking the prices is recommended and using the same places locals use is the best tip. Buying a house in Sweden is not complicated at all as it's very straight forward but it is even simpler for non-Swedes to buy and own houses in Sweden! Who is this house and location suitable for: This is ideal for nature lovers, with the unpolluted air, forests and lakes just on your doorstep! A family or couple who like to gather family and friends around them and enjoy country living, lakes and sunshine, Sweden gets really warm in the summers!!! Summer residence, if you are looking for a spacious place in a beautiful location to be spending your summers in nature but still want all the amenities you need on the doorstep.Retirement, This is an ideal place to retire if you like the idea of both nature and Sweden! There are many retired people here and several European couples too! Permanent residence, there is a primary school in the village and everything else you need for all round living, like doctors surgery, pharmacy, bank etc...If you love snow, this village has its own (free) ski piste and you can do plenty of cross country skiing or go skating on the lake or at the local ice-rink. Outdoorsy people, who love untouched forests and lakes for hiking, walking, cycling, canoeing, fishing, foraging, the list is endless... The house is best suited to someone who is keen to do any handy jobs needed, the house is mostly renovated but you may still want to do more adjustments to it. Perfect house if you want a new, spacious country kitchen to gather your loved ones in or doing lots of cooking. This is a great place if you like foraging for berries and mushrooms or making your own herbal teas, drying flowers and creating a small kitchen garden etc. This is the good life! Its great if you want to find people who actually live the good life and you can swap fresh eggs and homemade jams with or get the odd wild game to prepare, or you can just go to the bakery or butcher that has lots of good stuff too! Business opportunities: there are plenty, we would recommend creating a yoga or nature retreat or a B&B. You can run a business from the basement with its separate entrance from the street. It can be made into a shop, office, workshop, etc. Investment: the prices in rural Sweden just keep going up and you can add more space and value to the property by developing the basement and attic space. Airbnb: this has plenty of potential and you can stay here even while renting out some rooms, if you like the idea, this large house used to be a B&B once upon a time!If you are handy you will have lots of possibilities to put your own mark on the place, for instance you can add a veranda, a small guest house or hot tub in the garden or a sauna to the basement, or even create more bedrooms in the basement or attic! If you like a small garden that is easy to care for with both sun and shade. DIY shop "Bauhaus" sells huts, sheds, saunas, gazebos, guest houses, that you don't need any planing permission to put up and its cheap compared to UK. Sweden is quite generous about what you can put up in your garden without a planning permit. Who is this place not suitable for: Anyone wanting city life, going shopping or clubbing is not easy around here! This is a truly rural place with some small quaint towns around and lots of nature. If you constantly want people around you, in this quiet place people will take their time to get to know you but we can introduce you to some great people if you like. You need to be prepared to drive here from Gothenburg or Copenhagen airport, there are some close by smaller airports, (Vimmerby and Kalmar) but we have only ever used the cheaper option of Gothenburg which is a three hours drive from the house, however it is a beautiful trip with many fun and scenic stops!! Some activities you can do in the area: (there are more!) Canoeing, rowing, swimming etcExplore the lake and its several beachesHiking around the lake is 10K, around both lakes, 20K, there are two lakes with just a small gap between them. Go on moose safari or visit the local moose park down the road Go trekking or cycling along the old railway to see untouched nature and wild lifeGo foraging for, blueberries, lingonberry, mushrooms etc.Use the local tennis court, football field, indoor pool, library Visit the villages few but quaint cafes and shops and restaurantsDiscover the many antique shops and flee markets in the areaGet involved with the local narrow gauge railway society, who run the museum train a few times each summer and other activitiesYou can learn furniture makeing or smiting at the local heritage centre and see a variation of old craftsmanship in action The village has two heritages areas, one outdoor museum and a heritage park with several museums, a large art gallery, cafes and play areas etc.If you like outings visit the surrounding villages, there are many small places to discover and some stunning towns too Location, The village is in the area of Smaland in the south of Sweden, a popular summer destination for Swedes and those Europeans who have already found this precious gem, the village it self has both permanent and holiday residents and is a quiet place apart from a few times a year when they hold their famous market and some cultural events. How to get here: We recommend flying to Gothenburg or Copenhagen. Flights can be as low as £50 return. It's 3 hours drive from Gothenburg or Copenhagen, car is recommended but there is local transport however it takes a lot longer than driving. Distances: 20 min from Hultsfred, 1 hour from Vimmerby, 2 hours from Kalmar, 3 hours from Gothenburg or Copenhagen and 5 hrs from Stockholm. 1 hour from Astrid Lindgrens World, childrens theme park. You won't need a car in the village as everything is within walking distance but there is local car rental if you want to go exploring. However it's recommended to rent a car from the airport to get to the village as its not straight forward to get here without a car. Please read this!
