Seller: trotterclocks (1,455) 100%, Location: Edenbridge, Ships to: GB, Item: 143347171728 LARGE ANTIQUE GERMAN BRACKET CLOCK. WESTMINSTER CHIME + STRIKE IN WORKING ORDER WITH ORIGINAL WALL BRACKET. 1920's. BELIEVED JUNGHANS. As part of my clock clear out I am listing further clocks that are in working order but suitable for further restoration as the buyer requires and I won't get round to it. So here for auction is a superb & very large bracket clock, complete with its original bracket. Unsigned movement but believed Junghans. The movement has three going barrels, wind from the front. 8 day duration and pendulum controlled escapement. Westminster chime played on 4 tuned gong rods & hourly strike on 1 rod. Westminster tune increment on each quarter until full tune played on the hour. Gong block is back top mounted. Chime / silent lever is by pulling out brass knob on right side of case. Rear of the movement is unsigned but carries German markings, patented in all countries and serial number 846. Behind dial work is of Junghans style and type. Back signed Made in Wurttemberg, patents in all countries. I have numerous pictures of the clock & movement but unfortunately on 12 allowed here. But any more available on request. The dial is accessed by a glazed opening door at the front. The chapter ring is on top of a polished brass backplate. Silvered chapter ring with engraved Arabic numerals and a floral type design engraved between. Brass spandrels and top design ( bottom spandrels look to have come loose at some time and poss glued back). Dial set of with blued Fleur de Lis style hands. The magnificent case is very well made. Possibly walnut veneer, in good condition, slight opening of the corner mitres but not a problem. Front door is flanked by two half pillars in a reeded & ball design. Central part of door gives a break arch appearance and is fitted with a thick bevel edged glass. Excellent carving to front lower with a carved leaf design which also appears at top and bottom of reeded pillars / columns. Arched top has a carved leaf design with central whorl and reeded curved moulding. Waisted mouldings to front and sides top & bottom. The case stands on 4 turned wooden feet. Rear door has a freted metal panel with new red cotton backing. There is a faded label to the top of the back giving clock instructions, so made for the English market. A really magnificent case that requires more cleaning and a good polish. The clock bracket again appears to be in walnut veneer. Their is some lifting of the veneer on central top surface and like wise on the underneath surface. This is not really visible as the clock stands on it and the underneath is not really seen. Waisted mouldings to sides & front edges. Two fixing brackets at the rear top edge, making a sturdy shelf for the clock. Important note, I could have listed the bracket separately, however the previous owner assured me that the complete clock and bracket to his knowledge had been together all of the time, although when first sold the clock bracket would have been purchased separately, so to keep the provenance I have kept them together. All in all a magnificent large clock and bracket which needs a little work to make it looks its best. See dimensions below. Dimensions: Clock: Height: 45 cm's (18 inches).
