Seller: clockbuster (637) 100%, Location: Sheffield, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 262731658770 Condition: Beautiful original unmolested condition . Fully restored movement and dial, Details: MAHOGANY LONDON LONGCASE GRANDFATHER CLOCK - Sublime quality It is with great pleasure that I offer this very fine London made 18th century longcase clock of the very best quality which is in amazing original condition. London clocks of this period are always of excellent quality as it was the capital city of the richest country in the world at the time. This prosperity resulted in items being made to the highest possible standards using the very best raw materials imported from all over the world . Evidence of this quality is that many of these excellent clocks are still in everyday use today - at a fraction of their true price when new. As always there were customers requiring something extra special and were willing to pay a premium for that service. This particular clock is a fine example of such a clock which uses some of the choicest timbers that I have seen. The clock is unusual in that there are canted reed brass filled columns to the base as well as the trunk and hood. The full length door has a lovely moulded flat top as opposed the the arch top door normally seen. The break arched hood is less commonly seen as it retains its original blind fret. The sides are glazed to allow the movement to be seen. This clock was made by Samuel Fish of London who is recorded as working pre 1774 and this clock would have been made circa 1770. The 8 day duration weight driven 5 pillar movement is of high quality construction and strikes the hours on a bell.It has the facility for chime silent in the arch. The 12 inch arched brass dial is particularly pleasing with a clear readout and the makers name displayed on a shaped silvered bob.The clock retains its original brass cased weights and brass strap pendulum.Even the original winding crank is present. This clock was sourced in amazing untouched but very dirty condition and what you see in the images is the result of sympathetic restoration which has resulted in a truly beautiful clock. My cabinet maker has spent almost two weeks gently cleaning the case and then giving it 3 coats of the best microcrystaline wax resulting in an outstanding ,but original, finish whilst retaining the most wonderful patina.Re polished clocks simply cannot offer this type of finish nor the depth of colour and shade. The previously filthy dirty movement has been professionally cleaned and serviced and should give many years of outstanding service. The same treatment was given to the dial which restored beautifully. There are so many clocks offered for sale which are not genuine but I offer a full money back guarantee as the the clocks authenticity . The pictures do not flatter the item and it is much better in the flesh. Prospective buyers are urged to view this clock to see how nice it really is. The overall condition is outstanding with only the odd age related mark as can be expected. The trunk door lock and escution have been replaced but again these things have to be expected in something that is 250 years old !It will delight the most discerning and demanding client. I have spent my adult life sourcing antique clocks and during that time I can count in single digits the times I have seen a London longcase of such quality. I can remember such clocks fetching circa £15000 at auction (pre restoration) and of course there is a very limited supply. At the present time this clock represents exceptional value for money . It is an impressive piece being 7ft 7 1/2inches tall ,20 inches at its widest point and 9 inches deep I would encourage interested parties to view the clock and my limited photographic skill do it no favours at all and certainly do not show the quality of the finish. My direct contact details are at the bottom of most of my listings should any interested party wish to get in touch.
