Seller: sestriel (63) 100%, Location: Helsinki, Ships to: GB, Item: 302867847395 Third quarter of the 19th century marine chronometer by the nautical instrument and chronometer maker John Bruce, Liverpool. The chronometer has a silvered dial with engravings John Bruce, 26 Wapping, Liverpool. It has solid gold spade hands and the number 1105 engraved in the subsidiary seconds dial. On the upper side of the dial there's a 56 hour power reserve indicator. Key wound movement. The chronometer is set in a gimbal mount secured to a mahogany box with handles. The original winding key is present. Mercer's book "Chronometer Makers of the World" notes that John Bruce began business in 1867 and that 26 Wapping was his earliest address until moving in 1881. I would probably place the chronometer to early 1870's. The chronometer is presently running and appears to keep time well. I have not inspected the clockwork but according to previous owner it was maintained. The case lid is missing. Stains on the dial (as seen on pics), small dings from normal use. Otherwise good original condition. Don't hesitate to ask if any further questions. Condition: Running marine chronometer dating ca 1870, missing lid, stains on dial, otherwise good original condition, Primary Material: Brass, Maker: John Bruce, Original/Reproduction: Antique Original, Object Type: Chronometer, Country/Region of Origin: United Kingdom
