Item:153272778215My Dad used to be the food hall manager in a large department store in Swansea, and imported many of McCormick/Schilling's spices etc. One day in 1960 he brought this (freebie) home for me, and I became entranced with it - so much so that I did several school projects based almost entirely on the huge amount of information contained in and around the map. I stuck it on my bedroom wall, and given that I had two younger sisters, and that we moved three times within 5 years, it's a miracle it survived. The condition of the corners are evidence of it's being moved, but it's actually still in pretty good condition for its age (but please examine all photos to assess for yourself). I very helpfully numbered all the flags around the edge of the map (goodness knows why), but the text and illustrations on the rear are still perfectly clear (see the photos), and most of the creases are intact. To say it's a link with a bygone age may be overstating it a little, but the reality is that world geography has changed so much in the 58 years since this was printed that it's like looking at a historical document. And the information on the history of the spice routes, tea and coffee is fascinating.Type:Thematic Map, Year:1960, Format:Folding Map, Map View:World, Original/Reproduction:Vintage Original, Date Range:1950-1959, Cartographer/Publisher:Rand McNally & Co.
