About 25 years ago I was very, very keen on clocks but could never afford to buy a genuine 18th Century bell top bracket clock as they were well beyond my pocket. So having bought the complete 8 bell movement that you see, I set about making the smallest case I could make to be in keeping in scale to accomadate it. The circa 1830 movement is complete with the fusee chains and various bridges and rachets wheels etc in the little carboard box with the pendulum and hour bell. I made the dial plate and moonphase mechanism from scratch utilising a genuine 18th century chapter ring and calendar ring and purchased a set of genuine 18th century hands. The movement itself I have not damaged in anyway at all including no extra drill holes and made the dial and case to fit around it. It does work properly as I had it running all the while I was making the case and the only reason why some of the parts are in the box is because I was in the middle of working on the dial etc at the time and once finished would take it all apart again to clean it before full re-assembly. Since then all the parts have been safely tucked away inside the base of the clock. The case is made of solid mahogany with thick cut ebony veneer covering all the flat areas and ebonized on the mouldings etc together with a purpose built cubby hole in the top left hand side as you open the door for the key. All together it is very heavy and large. 20 years later I still have not got around to completing it and to be honest all I have done with it is move it from place to place without doing anything to it. If someone does want to complete it, it would need the hands fitting, the lever for the moon-phrase being made, the wheel and pin? for the calendar wheel and just minor metalwork adjustments.OrThe buyer uses the movement and case separately for something else. I would love to keep it because for all the work that I put into making the case and other work, but there comes a time in life when other things always come first leaving no spare time. Because of its size, weight and fragile nature, this will be collection only from Tunbridge Wells or I am happy to deliver / meet half way. Please see photos as they form part of the description. The photos don't really do it justice as in the flesh it has a lovely warm colour.
