Up for auction is a delightful Pupille created in 1931 by August Nagel, one of Germany's most important designers and manufacturers of equipment since 1908, and the future designer of the Retina after the purchase of his company, which became Kodak AG in 1932, but of which Nagel remained director. While Leica and Contax were developing small format cameras on 35mm film, Nagel used 127 film for this new 3 x 4 cm camera, giving 16 photos per roll. The camera is equipped with a Compur shutter and a Schneider Xenar f2.9 50mm lens. The lenses are clear and clean, no scratches, no haze, no fungus inside, no separation between the lenses. The focus is smooth and precise. Shutter speeds are good at all speeds and even slow speeds are great to my ears. The viewfinder is clear and clean. About 5,000 Nagel Pupille were produced.
