They have upgraded their process to make the old Super Stones even better. The tighter controls of grit particle size far exceeds the old standers employed by Naniwa resulting in a stone that has superior uniformity and therefore cuts more smoothly and cleanly. Like all Waterstones these stones require water, but unlike traditional Japanese stones these do not require soaking ahead of time. To use these new stones simply apply a little water to the surface and your ready to sharpen.

  • 220 grit - ideal for establishing a new bevel on your tools and knives and for re-shaping extremely dull or damaged tools
  • 400 grit - the coarsest stone you will require to maintain your edges if your tools are not damaged or allowed to become too dull between sharpenings
  • 800 grit - ideal for quickly restoring an edge that has gone beyond a quick touch up but has not suffered any damage
  • 1000 grit - a very popular choice as it really starts to refine your edge. This stone is an excellent follow up after using a 220 or 400 grit stone. If your edge is not very worn, you do not need to start any coarser than this stone.
  • 2000 grit - fine enough for many applications. In the workshop this stone will leave your tools with an edge better than most factory edges
  • 3000 grit - a very good final stone, however many people will use it as a nice progression between the 1000 and 8000 grit stones
  • 5000 grit - works very well after you have used the 1000 grit and is fine enough for use prior to using a 10,000 grit or above
  • 8000 grit - extremely fine and a wonderful final stage for most edge tools. We only recommend using this after the 2000 or finer grit stones
  • 10000 grit - extremely fine and a wonderful final stage for most edge tools. We only recommend using this after the 3000 or finer grit stones.
