Seller: chasten54 (1,583) 99.7%, Location: Moreton-in-Marsh, Ships to: GB, Item: 301888079785 Condition: See description below., Product Type: Military Chests, Original/Reproduction: Original, Age: 1900-1950, Material: Soft wood, Details: For sale is an old military trunk or chest formerly belonging to Capt. J E T Leigh of the 4/7 Royal Dragoon Guards. The chest is in original condition. Considering it's age, around 85 years, and the fact that it has travelled around the world, and the fact that it was a disposable item in the first place, it is in remarkable condition. It is made of soft wood, banded by metal bands and edging strip. All the metalwork has light surface rust. The outside is carefully covered in a light canvas type material. The inside is covered in a wood effect paper. The canvas is mostly intact, see photos and just needs re sticking in places. The paper is present, but in fragile condition. The trunk is carefully painted in white painted lettering. "Not wanted on voyage" "Capt. J E T Leigh 4/7 RDG Southampton". We think that the trunk dates from the late 20s when the Regiment was in India. It is possible that the trunk is older and was painted up for that particular voyage. He was made Major 13/7/1942. Saw action in France prior to Dunkirk. An untouched unique part of history. 81cm long x 43cm wide by 52cm high.
