Good condition. DESCRIPTION,This fantastic pair of mid century chairs were made in East Germany sometime in the 1960swe bought them in Leipzig last month. This very stylish pair of chairs are typical of the style and design from this post-war East German era of the mid 1960s. The shape of the back flaring out from the bottom towards the top is the style known as a Bartholomew chair. They are in great original condition. They are a fantastic looking pair of mid century chairs. original fabric typical of this period, the photographs are a good representation of the colour. The design features on this particular chair of the exaggerated flair to the top of the back of this particular model this along with the Barcelona leg which is splayed outwards, understated but a really effective way of lightening the whole chair. They also have a big flare to the top of the back, this also makes them very comfortable to sit in you can sit slightly sideways on the back as an armrest as well as the back rest. This style of chair are very fashionable at the moment, chairs from this period like these have become something of a style icon. so much so they are being reproduced more than any other style at the moment and most websites are asking £500 plus for the reproductions which don't have any of the charm these original ones do. CONDITION.As they are at the moment, they are in original condition they have not been restored in any way.The frames are very strong and sturdy and there is no damage to the main structure of the chairs, no woodworm, no wobbly arms or legs. All of the wood is in good condition, the colour of the wood on the arms is a warm honey colour. The fabric is in good condition and the colour has not faded at all, the only fault with these chairs that I can point out is that there appears to be a black mark across the back of one of them it looks like it might of been stored against something which as rubbed off. I have not tried to clean chairs and anyway I try to avoid vintage fabric if possible but it does look like it would come out with a clean. They are a fantastic shape and could be recovered in a more contemporary fabric if you so desire, but personally I feel they are perfect as they are. these chairs are 60+ years old so they are not meant there are a few signs in keeping with the age like a few scratches on the legs but nothing that I can photograph or mention in particular. Finally I will add that they are very comfortable. the seat is sprung but firm and the shape of the back is very supportive. These chairs in a good London mid century shop would be £1,000 + I know that because I supply a lot of them. have a look at this link So here is your chance to buy a pair of great chairs at a trade price.
