This is a very attractive and unusual pair of vases.
Made in solid sterling silver, they have a tapering form with pierced acanthus scroll and lattice work. The rims are shaped and the vases sit on stepped, footed bases. They are hallmarked on the base for Birmingham 1901, with the maker's mark of Henry Matthews.
Both the silver and the two green glass liners are in excellent condition. The vases are not gilded - any suggestion of gilding in the photographs is simply a reflection of the camera flash.
