Item:233213936418RARE 18TH CENTURY DUTCH SOLID SILVER SEALING WAX HOLDER AND SEAL Pieter 't Hart ....Schoonhoven 1786 This is beautiful Extremely Rare 18th Century Dutch Solid Silver Combination Sealing Wax Holder & Wax Seal, this rare item was crafted by Pieter 't Hart and Assayed in Schoonhoven in 1786 making it 233 years old. The detailing is exquisite, from the wonderful square shape tapering body which has a delicate engraved lattice work to the body which contrast beautifully with the smooth finish giving it a timeless elegance, the seal to the end is also square in shape and although not carrying a crest it does have what appear to be someones initials not professionally engraved onto the seal as you can see, this maybe the owners from 1808 because this wax holder and seal carries the date letter for 1786 but the engraved date to the body is 1808 so i would guess it is this later owner who has put his intials to the seal, on unscrewing the end of the holder you will find it still contains its very old wax for sealing the letters, the wax im not sure if it is original but i have never seen sealing wax like this before, it has no wick, you heat the end up and rub it on your letter pressing your seal before it sets which is pretty fast . The quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a Lady or gentleman in the 18th century and been used daily to seal there letters, this was many years ago when times were so very different. It is so very tactile and once picked up has the most wonderful feel, it is a wonderful example of a rare and fine quality sealing wax holder and desk seal, this will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice, the dutch word for this object is ... zilveren lakkoker...silver paint case Maker....
