This is a fine English bracket/table clock dating from the Regency period made by the highly regarded maker (George) Yonge and Son , Strand , London circa 1825
George Yonge and Son are recorded in Baillie G.H. Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World as Clockmakers to the Lord High Admiral working circa 1820-5; George Yonge senior succeeded the celebrated John Holmes. The business traded as George Yonge and Son 1823-30 before becoming George and Walter Yonge who continued trading from various addresses in The Strand until at least 1856.
The arched top case uses the very finest mahogany veneers and silk brass fretts to the sides summounted by decorative brass loop handles
The front having canted brass reeded corners and a brass side ring around the 8 inch painted arched dial which is signed by the maker and has a strike silent subsidiary dial above 12 o clock .
It stands on four ball feet
The glazed rear door gives access to the substantial 8 day duration bell striking chain driven triple fusee movement which strikes the quarters on a nest of 8 bells with repeat facility on a pull cord . The movement has border engraving and is also signed by the maker It is perfect working order.
This is an impressive clock being is 19 inches tall . The width is 13 1/2 inches and the depth 8 1/2.
