A. FURNIVEL. MAKER                                                           5 Kay St Ardwick Green                                                                 MANCHESTER I would love to have a go at making a microphotograph and it looks like you can once you know the technique . Both boxes in great original condition . Please see pictures they form part of the description.. I love the Pencil Diagram on the inner Lid which could have been drawn by Dancer himself. This is definately one for the Academic or Specialist Collector ... The question is when will you see another one for sale... The bellows inside the camera are excellent ... I have not cleaned these instruments in any way and they are in original condition. Furnivel knew Dancer and was know to help him make his equipment ... There is a small silver cartouche on one of the camera plates inside the box which looks like it has a makers name ..(slightly rubbed and difficult to read but I think I can make out some letters and the word Opticians ....pls see pics) Many collectors Worldwide of Antique Microscopes and prepared slides... So I will post Worldwide... Happy To answer any questions... This may sell very quickly .... So beware...Also all offers will be considered but there is a Buy It Now Price.... There are very few references to James A.Furnivel on the Internet. There are some from The Manchester Microscopical Society around the end of the late 1800,s. Thankyou I will add any information when I can ... Thankyou to an ebayer who has offered his opinion on these two items... They are of the opinion that this is not for Microphotography but for taking photographs of actual microscope slides. He also says the baseplate is missing from the camera. . If anyone else has any opinions please get in touch and I will continue to post any relevant information while the listing is active Unless it is sold immediately of course... If this is true it's still very interesting the the very heavy well made box with handle etc seems to have all it's fittings this is the Brass stand with lenses signed by J.A.FURNIVEL MAKER 5 KAY street Ardwick Green Manchester. You can see from the photographs when I have set it up that it is nearly all there.(if not ALL there......The back part of the camera is on hooks etc and has a system which lets it fold down and the whole set up is exactly like the diagram on the inside of the second box...) I would like to also add that not many people would be aware of the connection between Furnivel and J.B.Dancer........This to me Is the most interesting aspect.... ( I would also like to add that in the past I have been lucky enough to find and sell two very important Microscope collections that I managed to keep together and sell on to Far more knowledgable people than me on this subject, than myself) J.B.Dancer is one of the most well known Victorian microscopists, famous for his microphotography and slides, it is well known he sold his whole collection to Richard Suter. I know that there exists a rare copy from about 1900 of a printed catalogue of all the Dancer slides sold by Suter. What I don't know is if  any images of the actual slides in these catalogues....I also am not sure If Dancer produced his own Catalogue with Some images of his slides . . If Richard Suter bought the whole business from the Dancer Family was This part of it. It's a bit of a mystery ...... Would this type of equipment be used to take the images in these catalogues ..I presume so, that's why this Furnivel connection is so interesting. There are some rare Normal Furnivel cameras held in important collections and institutions but I have certainly not seen one specifically for Microscope slides. Was this set up used By one of these very famous Victorian Microscope mounters Such as Dancer or Suter to sell their prepared Slides ....?What I do know is that many collectors seem to be quite brilliant at analysing Handwriting on Victorian Microscope slides..The Diagram in Pencil and Writing need further research and could perhaps throw more light on this lot. Thankyou ....
