The clock has a mahogany case of architectural outline with brass inlay, acorn detailing and inset windows to all sides. It sits on a platform with gilt ball feet. It has a decoratively shaped silver dial with engine turned center, engraved chapter lines, steel-cut hands and black painted Roman numerals for the hours. The movement is single fusee. The dial is signed Barwise London, as is the movement. John Barwise had a shop at 29 St. Martins Lane London in 1790. In 1841 he was associated with Alex Bain and in 1842-43 was Chairman of Directors of the ill-fated British Watch Co. He made watches with cylinder, duplex and rack lever escapements as well as pocket chronometers. Watches by Barwise can be seen in the Guildhall Museum London. ~ Dimensions ~ The clock is 12.75 inches (32.5cm) tall by 7.75 inches (19.5cm) wide by 4.5 inches (11.5cm) deep. The weight of the clock is 2.51 kg. ~ Condition ~ The clock is in wonderful condition for its age. The woodwork is excellent with a deep patina. The dial is clean and the glass free from damage.
