Seller: pro_clock (2,608) 100%, Location: Congleton, Ships to: US, EuropeanUnion, CA, Item: 202618998408 Hi ThereBefore bidding on, or buying any item from me, please check my feedback and bid/buy with the utmost confidence. When you buy this clock from me, you will receive a C/D or pen drive with a 111 photos of the work I have carried out on the movement, along with a write up of the work seen in the photos. Some of these pictures can be seen in this listing. I take great pride in my work, which I hope can be seen in the finished product. The full asking price includes delivery and set up of this clock within a hundred mile radius of Congleton. Please read the note towards the bottom of the listing. On offer here is a lovely late 1940s, early 1950s Smiths Westminster chime mantel clock. This clock movement has been fully restored and serviced. The case and fittings have also been restored to what I hope you think is a high standard, while still keeping the character of the clock. The clock is an eight day, so should therefore be wound every seven days. It chimes every fifteen minutes building up to the Westminster chime at 12, after which it counts the hours. The chime can be silenced if you so wish. The light oak coloured case dimensions are approx 12" (30.4cm) wide. 9 1/2” (24.1cm) high. 5” (12.7cm) deep. The bezel size is 7 ¼” (18.4cm).This clock was a presentation clock. There is what I think is a solid silver plaque to the front that reads. “B RWestern RegionI RobertsIn appreciation of 45 years service” The clock chapter ring has the following around the edge”The Alexander Clark Co Ltd”. A bit of research has revealed they were silver smiths in Birmingham and sold quite a few of these clocks to the old British rail to be given out on 45 years service. This clock dates to the late 1940s, early 1950s and for a clock around 70 years old it looks really good. Because of the service it has undergone, it runs and chimes very well. The chime in particular sounds lovely. Please do bear in mind that this is an old clock and therefore although in very good condition for its age, there will be some slight imperfections. The case is in very good condition but I have not over cleaned it, as I feel this would spoil the character of the clock. To that end the case will have some small marks which will be related to its age. I did feel the need to re/paint the pendulum bob as it was badly marked. The movement has been completely stripped down, including the mainsprings. The plates did require some bushing work, but on the whole it was mainly dirt and grime that had to be dealt with. After repairs and polishing pivots in my lathe, all the parts were cleaned and polished by hand. Two of the mainsprings were replaced with new ones. The third one was fine. This clock comes with its original Key, something which is as rare as hens teeth. As with all pendulum clocks it will need to be stood on a flat LEVEL surface. As with all my clocks, the buyer will receive my own care sheets so that you will get the most out of the clock. Covering four sheets of A4, these pages cover everything from winding up the clock and adjusting the time, to when to have it serviced. You will receive a C/D or pen drive (let me know if you have a preference) with 111 photos and a write up showing the work I have done on the movement and the case. Please note the following on postage:-I offer a delivery and setup service to anywhere within mainland UK. If you pay full price for the clock the delivery is included up to hundred miles from Congleton. If you live further than that, the added cost for delivery is 0.30 per mile return. So the cost of delivery and setup, if you lived hundred and fifty miles from me would be £30. I will also give you a twelve month guarantee. You will see the clock running and ask any questions you might have.RememberIf you do decide to pick up the clock from me or have it delivered and setup by myself I will give you a twelve month guarantee. Please have a good look at the photos before buying. If you have any questions or would like to see some more photos, you can mail me through the eBay contact seller. Finally, some personal thoughts on these old clocks.Back in the day... Clocks weren't just a decoration; families centred their lives on the time they displayed. As a repairer, each one is definitely different and has a personality. When you think of what the world has been through since these clocks were made, my mind just boggles. Wars, natural disasters and the changing face of technology. Millions of lives born and lost, along with all their experiences. How many children learnt to tell the time using them? How many owners have these clock had? How many times have they been handed down after the owner has passed away?If only they could talk!I am passionate and obsessed about these old clocks and want to see them being passed down for future generations. While working on these old clocks I sometime come across a date and signature of a clock maker who has worked on it many years ago. For the last few years I have signed and dated all the movements I work on. This mark will only ever be found if a clock maker in the future works on it. Condition: This clock has been cleaned, serviced and repaired by myself. It is now in very good condition but not a new clock at around a 70 years old. Please read the listing in full and look at the photos.Thank you., Age: Vintage, Material: Other Wood, Type: Mantel, Features: Striking, Sub-Type: Clock, Brand: Smiths, Clock Type: Westminster Mantel, Style/ Origin/ Theme: Antique/ Vintage
