'Lighter than Air' is inspired by some of the greatest of cycling's mountain specialists.There are eight climbers depicted from various eras around my central poem entitled' Lighter than Air'.The mountain men are Lucien Van Impe,Luis Herrera,Charly Gaul,Federico Bahamontes,Luis Ocana,Robert Millar,Peter Winnen and Marco Pantani.           The verse is as follows:                  Here are the climbers whose art we have loved,                  They climb for the tunic spotted like blood                  Sculpted at speed                  With muscles that tear                  The grimpeur's heart                  Must be lighter than air... Ideas around the painting's narrative: In the rarefied and magical arena of the high mountains and cols of Europe,the normal laws of gravity seem to obey a suspended reality.Physical forces appears to submit to a supernatural authority where the climbers must battle in the thinnest air for survival,glory and the spotted fleece that is the King of Mountains jersey.          The mythical tunic itself cannot contain the liberated polka dots as they float unfettered from rider to rider in the surreal gravity of the high cols.Which superman can flatten the gradient,vanquish the pain and the tame ambitions of the other climbers as the polka dots float from jersey to jersey?          For this challenge,the grimpeurs themselves must be lighter than air... Artistic licence: The observant purists may note that the polka dot jersey did not exist for some of these earlier riders' careers.Also, some of the climbers never actually wore the polka dot jersey.Well spotted,if you pardon the pun!
