Photograph Notes: This iconic landmark is one of the best known views on the Broads, seen here from the Bure. It was the only monastery in Britain which survived the Dissolution; the king exchanged it for lands owned by the Diocese of Norwich. The Bishop of Norwich is therefore Abbot of St Benets, and presides at an annual service on the first Sunday in August. (See [[690494]].)
