Beautiful mantel clock made in France. The case and movement maker are Samuel Marti. The clock case has a beautiful Louis XV style to it. The clock dates to the late 1800s to early 1900s.
The clock has a beautiful brass French movement and then a brass clock case. The case is adorned with all sort of flowering and scroll images. Nice urn finial. No damage or missing pieces to the delicate trim work that we can ascertain. Some minor surface wear and green patina to the brass case. We see no cracks, or repairs to the case to report to you. There is also a nice incised design on the back plate of the case which is uncommon.
Beautiful black colored hands on the clock face. The clock face is made of porcelain. Done with black numbering, minute marking and then red detailing in between the numbers. No hairlines or cracks to the porcelain face that we can ascertain. The front bezel is in place, no glass is in it. The rear door is still securely attached to the case.
We have cleaned and oiled the rear pivot points on the back plate of the movement of the clock. The clock will hold a beat, but does not stay running consistently with the pendulum in place. Both springs feels sound when keyed. The clock will come with a newer wind key.
This is a time and bell strike clock. The bell strike strikes once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour. The strike does work as expected when the clock movement is advanced manually. So, selling this clock in not running and striking condition at this juncture. This clock's movement has not been serviced and is being sold in not running and striking condition. This clock will be going out to the Clock Doc for servicing if one of you does not acquire it soon. The Samuel Marti logo is on the back plate of the brass movement. Says Medaille De A'rgent and 1889 for a prize they won in an Exposition that year, not the year the clock was made. The number "6" is incised at the bottom center of the movement. The number "566" is impressed on the pendulum. The clock stands 16" tall by 8.25" across, by 4.5" wide. The clock face is 3.25" across. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.As can be expected when dealing with an antique clock, some adjustments may be needed after shipping to get the clock re-running correctly again as they can be very delicate. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art.
