Seller: psi-man73 (226) 100%, Location: Fenstanton, Cambridgeshire, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 132017769880 Product Type: Cabinets, Original/Reproduction: Original, Age: 1900-1950, Material: Steel, Details: "SANKEY SHELDON". A great British company and manufacturer of industrial 'utilitarian' furniture since the mid 19thC. This filing cabinet is a fine example of the British steel and manufacturing industry before it started going down hill in the 1980's. This really is one of those "they don't make them like they used to" items. This particular example features 12 drawers most likely intended for card indexing but I'm sure it has stored a veritable cornucopia of things over the years. It is very sturdy as you would expect and aside from the usual dents and dings is in pretty good condition. All the drawers are in good working order and extend fully with very little resistance. The colour I would describe as mustard and I believe has been applied at some point after its manufacture as the inside of the cabinet and drawers are grey. There is chipping and scratches and a few rust spots but some people pay good money for this level of distressing so let's say it's 'shabby chic'. In this age of up cycling and repurposing this cabinet would not look out of place in an open plan living space sat alongside a Barcelona chair and Finn Juhl sideboard. So, whether you're looking for that key piece of interior design gold or you simply want a nice looking cabinet to store your workshop nik-naks this really is the one for you. Don't miss out on your chance to own a piece of British industrial design. Happy bidding. Dimensions are height 48" depth 20" width 16"
