Antique,Art Deco, Elkington, silver-plated, kettle, spirit burner & standmanufactured by Elkington Sheffield England. The bottom of the kettle isstamped, E & Co. Elkington Plate, No. 23452, the letter E & Co inGothic letters, and the letter P, which is the date for 1927, but notguaranteed.
Elkington was founded by George Richards Elkington and his cousin, Henry Elkington, in the1830s.It operated under the name G. R. Elkington & Co. until 1842, when athird partner, Josiah Mason, joined the firm. It operated as Elkington, Mason,& Co. until 1861, when the partnership with Mason was terminated. The firmoperated independently as Elkington & Co. from1861 until 1963. In 1963Mappin & Webb merged with Elkington and was part of Elkington until 1971when they went out on their own. In 1971 Elkington and Walker & Hall were thentaken over by British Silverware Ltd. and became a subsidiary of Delta MetalCo. Ltd.
The kettle is 180 mm. high and 200 mm. fromback end to spout, the approximate weight of the teapot, is 810 grams, thehexagon shaped stand is 105 mm., high, 170 mm., each way., The stand and burnerweigh 1.033 kilograms. The kettle has a Bakelite/composite handle.
This antique,Art Deco heavy silver-plated kettle, spirit burner and stand were pre-owned, ingood condition, does not have any plate loss, there are four very minor dents(hardly noticeable), and surface scratches commensurate with usage and age. Thehinge is in good order and the lid fits properly. The burner is complete withall working parts and does have a wick. The condition is excellent consideringthis kettle and stand are 97 years old.
