This is a beautiful woolwork of a country maid, a Spaniel Dog in her arms and a Basket at her feet. There is foliage and flowers and a cottage in the back ground. I am reliably  informed by an art dealer friend that the 'clumps of flowers' I could see in the 'sky' are infact cherubs (putti) floating on clouds!! See what you think!!  The colours are quite soft and muted - especially the dog which sits in her left arm.  It is signed 'Mary Ann Marsland Finished This Work April 22 1847'  It suits its later vintage Frame. It is quite a large imposing piece but it has 'issues'. There is significant discolouration or staining in the background and a very small (2cm) area of damage (appears to be a small fray or ladder). The colours are muted or might be slightly faded - I'm not sure I've always known it like this! I bought it like this very many years ago from an Antique shop in York so the damage was pre-framing.  It doesnt bother me but please do study the pics as you might feel differently. It has been displayed with a number of samplers and does display surprisingly well. The main picture is the most accurate representation of colour. It looks much lighter in some of the other pictures. I'm happy to take & post further pics.  Please ask any questions. This is large and heavy and will be very robustly packaged, hence the higher postage cost (I don't charge for packaging)
