Seller: trotterclocks (1,410) 100%, Location: Edenbridge, Ships to: GB & many other countries, Item: 142694452466 STUNNING AND RARE VINTAGE SMITHS DELUXE 8 DAY MANTEL / TABLE CLOCK IN HEAVILY GILT BRASS WITH LATTICE FRET DOORS. Here for auction I have another stunning clock from my collection that I am disposing of. A vintage Smiths Deluxe table / shelf clock in a timeless design. This is a rare model and apart from my own I have only ever seen one other. I do not have a model name for it because it does not appear in the excellent Smiths clock book by Barrie Smith. It may have been made for the Smiths dealers TNG (Tucker Nunn & Grimshaw) as they did produce a couple of designs using gilt fret work panels and the cases & finish were of a much higher quality. The clock is a timepiece only and uses the Smiths 7 jewel Calotte movement introduced in the early 1950's. later superseded to a 15 jewel movement approximately 1962. The movement is wound and hands set from the rear and this clock uses a unique feature to do this. To access the winder, it is necessary to push on the right side of the clock face and the clock front pivots out from the left side for winding. Keeps it away from prying fingers. The clock runs for eight days on a full wind and keeps good time. The clock case work is in Gilt brass with a brushed satin finish to the top, side & back panels. The side panels are also engraved with a design as can be seen in the pictures. The 4 corner pillars, top ball finishers, stepped case feet and top, bottom panel edges are in a heavy gilt finish. The front opening fret lattice work doors are in a brushed satin gilt finish with gilt knobs. The dial surround encloses a bevel edged glass. Dial silver white with raised gilt baton Roman numerals and superb ornamental gilt hands. Dial is signed Smiths Deluxe with crown above, 8 day and made in England, all wording gold colour. Case finish is totally original and in great condition with just a small ammount of loss to the rear pillars. Heavy for its size. Really an excellent clock in great condition, suitable for any style or period of home decoration. A timeless, well designed and classic clock ideal for a collector. Dim:. Height: 12 cm's (4¾ inches). Width: 12 cm's (4¾ inches).Depth: 5.8 cm's (2¼ in). Weight unpacked. 1.1 Kg's. Please see my other listings and watch for future items as I shall be disposing of a lot more clocks from my collection including some unfinished projects such as a W.R. Smith Grasshopper skeleton, A Claude Reeve Musical movement (19 bells) and a J Wilding Skeleton battery electric clock, as well as parts and movements and clocks for restoration.
