Seller: directbeers (1,178) 100%, Location: Derbyshire, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 382960643248 This is a really beautiful and ornate silver and cut glass lined salt cellar. The cellar is marked at one end with the Minerva head, including the number 1 in front of the forehead, indicating that it is First Quality silver, equivalent to 95% purity. At the other end is the maker's mark M V separated by a mallet. This is the mark for Maillard Freres & Vazou, who were registered at 113 Rue De Turenne in the Marais area of Paris in 1897. The cellar is beautifully finished with scrolling swags of flowers and foliage in a style typical of the finest French silver of the period. The cut glass lining is hand blown and hand cut with a star at the base. On either side is a cartouche engraved with a lovely ornate, cursive S M. The cellar is in excellent antique condition with no signs of any damage, just one minor ding to the engraved cartouche on the one side, and some oxidisation to the interior gilding. The cellar is 42 mm tall, and 68 mm long. All in all, a very lovely and interesting piece of antique silver.
