Artist
Biography: Jean-Pierre Alaux Biography. Born: 1925, La Ciotat, France; died 2020. Jean-Pierre Alaux, a direct descendant of a lineage of painters and architects tracing back to the early 18th century, embarked on his artistic journey in the Dominican high school. Following this, he was accepted into the Superior National School of Fine Arts in Paris. From 1943 to 1949, Alaux refined his skills in the studio of Jean Dupas. To fund his education, Alaux undertook various projects, such as painting figurines, creating box lids, and crafting glass paintings. One of his noteworthy endeavors was illustrating thirty scenes from the life of Christ for the Archdiocese of Paris. In 1947, driven by the urge to explore and learn, Alaux and his workshop mate, Frédéric Vidalens, embarked on a bicycle tour of Italy. They traveled through Rome, Florence, Assisi, Viterbo, Siena, and Arezzo Piero della Francesca, spending a significant week at the Villa Medici. Alaux's art is a blend of baroque, surrealism, and magical realism, with a strong penchant for featuring female characters set against evocative landscapes. His work delves into mythology, combining it with personal symbolism, resulting in a unique artistic narrative. His talent did not go unnoticed. Over the years, he began showcasing his work in salons and galleries spanning Paris, Brussels, New York, Boston, New Orleans, and beyond. His dedication to art was further cemented by his active involvement in the Salon d'Automne board, the ADAGP, the Committee of the Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture a l'Eau, and the Société Nouvelle des Beaux-Arts. Several awards and honors came his way. He won the Grand Prix des Peintres Temoins de leur Temps in 1974. In 1975, he was named the Official Painter of the Marina and, subsequently, the Painter of Air and of Space in 1992. In recognition of his immense contribution to the arts, Jean-Pierre Alaux was conferred the title of Gentleman of the Legion of Honor as Painter and Sculptor in 1989. Many of his works found homes in private collections worldwide and were acquired by esteemed institutions such as the French State, the City of Paris, the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, the Musée de la Marine, the Musée Rapin (Villeneuve-sur-Lot), the Musée Ueno (Japan), and the Town Hall of Challans. Notable exhibitions of his art include venues like the Denon Museum (Chalon sur Saone), Museum of Bastion Saint Andre (Antibes), Credit Mutuel de Bretagne (Brest), Chapelle des Penitents bleus (La Ciotat), Chapelle des Jesuites (Chaumont en Haute-Marne), Hotel de la Marine (Paris), and the Grand Palais (Paris).
Condition: The lithograph is in fair condition with no discernible flaws to the image. However, the margin does show signs of wear with various grubby marks, handling creases, and bruises, notably pronounced at the lower left. The photographs form part of the description; please study all images to fully satisfy yourself as to the condition.

- Authenticity When
we list an artwork as being "by" a
particular artist, without a doubt we
guarantee it to be an original artwork
by the artist as stated. When we sell
artwork described as an "oil
painting", "watercolour" or a "print",
this is quite simply what it really
is. When we list artwork as by a
"follower" or "school" or "manner" of
an artist, or from a specific period
or time eg. "19th century". Based on
the available information, knowledge
and research, that is what we believe
the artwork to be. If we are not sure
about the artist, medium, or age, we
will clearly say so and tell you why.
Where needed to further our knowledge,
artwork will be independently verified
to be certain it is as described
before being offered. Quite simply we
have one rule, we do not sell recent
fakes or forgeries. If any artwork
could not be sold through a reputable
Auction House, then we will not act
fraudulently or underhandedly by
offering it for sale here through
Johns-Auctions. If after a purchase
you find there is doubt about our
description of your artwork, we will
offer a full no quibble refund.
