Two beautiful early 19th Century seascape watercolours by Thomas Mortimer . Signed by T Mortimer .
• The frames look quite possibly to be original and they ( the frames) are in very poor condition. ( I have tried to show this in the pictures) . The actual watercolours look in excellent condition for the age.
Somebody seems to have whitewashed the mount too which has slightly washed on to the picture . Maybe they are supposed to be like this ??? It doesn't take away from how stunning these pictures are and I've only noticed it now when I came to take the pictures . Could have been the original artist in fact I'm convinced it was. I'm no art expert and I bought them as I thought they were just beautiful - with the intention of remounting / reframing them but sadly they have just been put to one side .
• There is a signature to the back of the frame . Could be the person that framed it as it is a different signature to that of the artist.
I am aware of how much his pictures sell for but because of the above I am happy to sell at a lower price as getting them appraised would probably cost the amount that I am selling them for . I really don't know too much about them but they are VERY old. It would be an injustice for them not to go to a home of somebody who appreciates fine art .
I am not prepared to remove the pictures from these very old frames . They will be sold as they are now intact .
These are very old watercolours by a well known artist ,they would benefit from a professional person dealing with them .
The actual picture measures 17 X 36 cms ( that is not with the frame & mount)
I bought these pictures as early 19th Century Watercolours from a legitimate auctioneers .
