Rather beautiful and unusual Japanese antique Imari dish, a cross between a bowl and a plate, or a shallow bowl. It measures about 20.5cm in diameter, with sides just under 4cm high. The first thing that is unusual is the shape and design, as it has  quite a thick heavy base that tapers off into thin scalloped sides. Another thing that I am not used to is the pineapple decoration in the centre, surrounded by the storks and dragons. The segmentation of colours, patterns and designs is however as expected, but I can say the artistry is very good with some amazing detail. The last thing that I find unusual is that the underside of the brim is nearly as decorated as the upper surface, with flowing flowers and segmented designs. As I know little about these, this one I find quite intriguing. It has a number of blue circles around the base, as well as one on the inner corner, and has a small red flower mark, which I believe I have seen on Arita Imari.
