This is the first title from Hong Kong Rescue where we perform our own meticulous frame-by-frame restoration. Using the professional restoration software Phoenix and PFClean, thousands of instances of dirt, dust, scratches and broken frames were removed or fixed.

Disc 1:

Three versions of Project A are included sourced from two separate sources.  The Hong Kong Version is nearly identical to the Japanese version but it includes slightly different opening titles and different outtakes. Uses the US Echo Bridge transfer.  The US Version is the shortest of the three, heavily cut in different areas. Uses the US Echo Bridge transfer.  The Japanese version is the longest owing to the extended ending outtakes. Not only that, but this uses a different Japanese source for the transfer. This is the transfer that we meticulously restored so should be considered the definitive version.

21. Hong Kong Rescue Trailer WHEELS ON MEALS The Restoration:

The exclusive Hong Kong Rescue restoration of Wheels on Meals took longer than any previous restoration we've attempted. The only genuine HD transfer for this film in the world is a Japanese print that has great detail and color, but it had a problem with dirt, dust and scratches all over the place.  So we spend every day for about 10 months meticulously removing each and every imperfection. The video below gives a good demonstration of what we accomplished with the effort. The difference is stunning, even more so when you see it in person.

Disc 1:

Audio Tracks:

1. Original Cantonese 2.0 LPCM
2. Classic English Dub 2.0 LPCM
3. Hybrid Cantonese 2.0 LPCM

This one requires an explanation. The music from the original English dub is iconic and many prefer it to the music in the original Cantonese version.  So we combined the Music from the English dub with the dialog from the original Cantonese. This is an exclusive to HKR and many fans will consider it the best of both worlds.

POLICE STORY 3: SUPERCOP Disc 1:

Our new 2020 rerelease of Jackie's classic Supercop is an improvement in every respect over our original version.  We are now using the new Ritrovata 4K restoration of the Hong Kong Version as our base, but we dramatically improve the colors with a special color grading technique. The yellow and green tint and elevated blacks are gone. The film has probably not looked better since it's original theatrical run.  The Miramax cut was recontructed using this same source, given it's superiority over the available sources of the US version.

Subtitles:

All subtitles have been improved for readability. Font and placement have been improved and the times that they flash on screen and off have been refined.  The songs played over the ending credits have been translated as well. The Cantonese version plays "I Have My Path". The Mandarin version plays "The Riddle".  You don't want to miss this one. It's been polished as close to perfection as I'm capable. DRUNKEN MASTER 2 Disc 1:

At long last the completely uncut Hong Kong version was scanned and restored for Hong Kong and Japanese markets at the end of last year.  This new restoration is miles better than the previous transfer that we worked with on our previous HKR version. The aspect ratio is wider, there is more detail throughout the frame, and the colors and dramatically improved.  Most significantly, the original opening titles and the ending blind boxing scene have been unaltered, so they are presented with the same pristine clarity as the rest of the film.  In the previous version, HKR had to work quite hard to restore these scenes, using vastly inferior source material.  Also, new for the 2019 release: Bey Logan's excellent commentary!  This commentary is unavailable on any other home video release in the world.  Both the Hong Kong and Japanese cuts are presented on Disc 1.

Audio Tracks:

1. New Cantonese 2.0 LPCM
2. Original Cantonese 2.0 LPCM

12. Hong Kong Rescue Trailer THE KILLER What makes our version special:
We spent an enormous amount of time trying to put together the best version of this film we possibly could. We undertook an extensive restoration with scene-by-scene color grading and fully reconstructed and restored opening titles and closing credits. In addition to John Woo's preferred (and commonly available) 111 minute Theatrical cut, we've included the rare 124 minute Extended version and the even more rare 136 minute Taiwanese version. This gives fans the opportunity to compare and contrast these three different cuts and enjoy all the deleted scenes, extended footage and alternate takes.

The Theatrical cut underwent a scene-by-scene color grading with the out-of-print Criterion release serving as a reference. Over 2600 unique LUTs were generated and matched on a scene by scene basis.

We've carefully synced up eight different audio tracks including three commentaries. The default audio track is based on the Scandinavian Scanbox DVD, which was determined to be the clearest and best sounding of the original Cantonese audio tracks.

For the subtitles, we've commissioned the creation of a brand new line-by-line English translation that transforms the film. Far superior to older translations, these new subtitles better convey the actors performances and add immensely to the enjoyment of the film.

We've also included two secondary subtitle tracks that are based on the Criterion release as well as the Fox Lorber release. Many people grew up with these subs and have a nostalgic attachment to them so we made sure to include them as an option.
We paid a lot of attention to the font, position and overall readability of the subs. Careful tweaking ensures that each line flashes on and off of the screen at precisely the right time.
In addition to the three different cuts of the film, the multitude of audio options, and three subtitle tracks to choose from, we've stuffed hours of additional special features onto Disc 2, many of which are exclusive to Hong Kong Rescue. You'll get to enjoy interviews of the director, cast and crew, behind-the-scenes documentaries, promotional images, a trailer gallery, deleted scenes and so much more.
We truly pulled out all the stops to ensure this stands as the ultimate release of John Woo's masterpiece for a long time to come.

Disc 1 Features:
Exclusive Restoration - Thousands of instances of dirt, dust, scratches and broken frames were removed. Motion problems that existed in the original sources were fully repaired.
Restored Opening Titles & Ending Credits - We meticulously and seamlessly restored the original Cantonese opening titles as well as the closing credits.
Shot-By-Shot Color Grading - The only home video release of The Killer that John Woo was personally involved with in signing off on the color grading was the long out-of-print Criterion laserdisc and DVD releases that came out in the mid-1990s. We used this version as a reference and generated over 2600 LUTs which matched Woo's preferred grading for each and every shot in the film.
The Most Accurate Subtitles - Brand new subtitles were created from scratch with a new English translation of the original Cantonese dialogue.
Secondary Subtitles - We additionally include two secondary subtitle tracks based on the Criterion DVD and Fox Lorber DVD. You have the option of choosing which translation you'd prefer.
Authored At The Highest Standard - We took every effort to ensure that this release is polished and professional in all aspects. Seamless navigation with audio and subtitle selection menus, chapter selection screens for both the Theatrical and Extended versions as well as Pop-up menus ensure a fantastic viewing experience.

Hong Kong Rescue - 1:37 PEKING OPERA BLUES Peking Opera Blues HKR Definitive Edition Blu-ray 2 Disc Set

In the wake of China's first democratic revolution, three beautiful, high-spirited young women from very different backgrounds cross paths in a common quest for liberation. Fateful circumstances find the three joining forces as they muster the courage and fortitude to become female warriors.

Tsui Hark's satirical commentary on Chinese Democracy, Peking Opera Blues, expertly weaves comedy, drama, and high-flying acrobatics into a lavish, colorful production, not unlike Chinese opera itself. The film's kinetic energy never slows down and propels each scene to the next, yet never loses sight of it's character's intertwined motivations. Truly worthy of it's many high praises, it remains an endearing classic of Hong Kong cinema, as well as a creative high point of Hark's illustrious career.

What makes our version special:
HKR is proud to present one of the best films in Hong Kong cinema history that has been sorely neglected and disrespected on home video up until now.

We've done everything in our power to rectify this injustice by restoring the video, syncing up the best sounding audio tracks and perfectly timing up brand new English subtitles from an accurate translation for a flawless presentation.

Restoration and Color Correction
Dirt, dust, scratches and broken frames were removed from the transfer and we applied some color correction to produce a more vibrant picture. Every DVD and Blu-ray release of this title was missing the opening and closing text that puts the film's narrative in historical context. Using a laserdisc reference, we fully restored this on-screen text to it's original condition. The result is that Hong Kong Rescue's definitive edition provides the first way to see this film completely uncut in nearly thirty years.

The subtitles:
Our release includes a NEW line-by-line translation of all the dialogue to create the best and most accurate English subtitles available for this film.

There are two songs that play during the film, both sung by Sally Yeh.
The first, "Just Another Drama Play" plays during the opening of the film and during the credits. The second, "I Can't Escape", plays during a brief scene at around the 1 hour mark.
Both have been subtitled in English for the first time.

Great sounding audio:
Most audio tracks available for this film sound terrible, so we searched for a great sounding source for the original audio. Finally we found it in the Golden Cinema City laserdisc, a thirty year old release.
It sounds phenomenal, with dynamic range that modern lossy tracks can't match.

Disc 1 Features:
Exclusive Restoration - Dirt, dust and scratches were removed and the uncut original theatrical version was reconstructed from two sources. The opening titles were restored as well.
Restored Opening & Closing Text - The opening and closing text present on the original theatrical release has finally, after more than thirty years, been restored.
Continuity Error Fixed - A strange continuity error towards the end of the film where the sky changes from gray to blue has been fixed.
The most accurate subtitles - Completely rewritten and exclusive to HKR. Subtitles for the theme songs "Just Another Drama Play" and "I Can't Escape" have been created as well.
Authored to the highest standard - Professional menus with seamless navigation and chapter and audio selection combine in a release that is polished in all facets.
