Seller: clockbuster (638) 100%, Location: Sheffield, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 263047634093 Condition: Excellent condition and Working perfectly, Details: VERY SMALL ENGLISH 5 GLASS FUSEE MANTLE BRACKET LIBRARY CLOCK This is a very fine and small English mantle/bracket/library clock dating from the second half of the 19th Century which has very rare silent escapement. It is only 9 1/4 inches tall. This single fusee chain driven 8 day duration movement is of typical high quality as produced in London at the time and is in perfect working condition. Generally English fusee movements produce quite a loud tick and this particular clock has the very unusual feature of a silent escapement which quietens the tick of the clock considerably. It is only slightly louder than a French clock and about 2/3rds less the normal fusee escapement.I presume that it was a special order by a client for a bedroom or a location where the ticking needed to be unobtrusive. Prior to acquiring this piece I had only seen this type of escapement in books - it is very rare indeed. The larger than average sized movement can be viewed on all sides and the top through the thick bevelled glasses and this design is very often refer ed to a as a library clock as many gentleman's libraries were furnished with such an item. Of typically English restrained style the the overall quality and condition is outstanding with the case being veneered in selected Rosewood of excellent grain and colour. The finish is excellent with a good shine. The 4 inch silvered and engraved brass dial has very good clarity. It is signed by Griffiths,King Street,Westminster (London) who is recorded as working circa 1840 until the latter end of the century. I am afraid that my limited photographic skills do not show this clock at its best and a personal viewing is recommended and any professional appraisal is welcomed. The movement is in fully functioning condition.. I offer a full money back guarantee as to the authenticity of this clock.I also welcome any expert appraisal whatsoever. Obviously, any potential clients are very welcome to view the clock prior to purchase (or pay on delivery)to ensure that they are satisfied with their purchase. This clock is much nicer in the flesh and looks superb . I am certain that the buyer will be delighted with their purchase. The clock is only 9 1/4 inches tall , the widest part of the clock is 6 1/4 inches and it is 5 1/4 1/2 inches deep. If the buy it now price is paid in full then I will deliver and set up the clock free of charge to the English mainland,Wales and the Scottish lowlands.I will also provide a 12 months guarantee under these circumstances. This is the same service that is provided by a high street retailer without the customer having to pay for the overheads If a lesser off is accepted then this will be sold as a trade sale with the clock as described and with shipping costs the responsibility of the buyer. If you wish to use your own courier I will do all I can to assist. I only charge actual costs incurred for shipping BUT I will use a large box with plenty of packing to avoid damage and this will make shipping (particulary to foreign countries) a little more expensive due to volumetric weight. Custom made boxes, bubble wrap and peanuts all cost money and the cost of these materials will be added to the cost of shipping. For example a Vienna wall clock costs me £15 in materials.I do not charge for my time for packing. Every care will be taken when packing but no liability will be accepted for damage by the couriers and it must be remembered that it is virtually impossible to guarrantee 100 percent that a peice of glass may not be damaged on the odd occasion. Insurance is a difficult and expensive area with respect to antiques and usually has a low ceiling that is why I use recognised tracked and signed for couriers and do not insure seperately. If you wish to seperately insure your item I will do all I can to assist but the responsibility to arrange the said insurance is with the buyer It is requested that all buyers contact me within 24 hours and pay in full within 7 days unless a prior arrangement is made Please do not agree to buy something unless you intend to pay.
