Clifford Bayly is painter, illustrator, writer and teacher, born in London. Showing artistic talent at an early age he went to art classes at the age of 6 and soon after won a national competition run by Andrews Liver Salts. A very unusual mixed media work by listed Modern British artist Clifford John Bayly R.W.S. (b.1927).  It depicts a  man in traditional dress holding a cross. He stands in an extensive landscape with trees beyond, a  lake and distant hills. Grasses and flowers in the foreground. Signed and dated lower right 'Clifford Bayly 82' and inscribed verso with the title 'Peasant Stone, Yugoslavia', the medium- 'mixed media, pencil, oil pastel, metallic ink'.  Also has the artist's reference number, his card with Staplehurst address and copyrighted to him. Painted on thick textured watercolour paper and in very good original condition, the only point to note is a tiny faint speck just below the man's raised hand.  Presented in cream coloured mount within an wooden frame which has been painted red and then washed with silver giving it an antiqued or 'shabby chic' look.  The mount is in very good clean condition.  Glazed and ready to hang. Measures 41 x 51cm including the frame, the visible painting only is 22.5 x 32cm. Postage £8 to mainland UK, £26 to mainland Europe and £54 to the USA. Clifford Bayly is painter, illustrator, writer and teacher, born in London.  Showing artistic talent at an early age he went to art classes at the age of 6 and soon after won a national competition run by Andrews Liver Salts.   He  then studied at St Martin's School of Art and also at Camberwell School of Art before going on to teach at Margate, Canterbury and Maidstone Colleges of Art for 30 years before retiring to focus on his art.  Bayly exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, the Mall and Bankside Galleries and also in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.   He was Vice President of the Royal Watercolour Society and President of Weald of Kent Art Group and published a number of books on painting and drawing as well as illustrating the Collins Children's Dictionary .  Examples of his work are held in a number of public and corporate collections including the RWS Diploma Collection, HRH King Charles, Nat West Bank, Shell Oil and ABC Tv.  I believe he has lived in Perth since 2001 where a special exhibition was held in 2019 to mark his 92nd birthday.   There are a number of auction records for his work with prices to £1000 and many in the £400-600.
