This antique miniature metal (tinplate) suite of Maltese knight armour is a stunning collectors' and decorative item. Likely crafted by the workshop of C. Galdies, a craftsman active in Valletta, Malta.from the late 19th century through to the early 20th century, and known  to specialise in reproducing faithful miniature replicas of Maltese suits of armour collection from the Grand Master's Palace there.

This copy is mounted over an original wooden pedestal and retains a well preserved round shield with the silver Maltese cross over red background, and also features a similar cross impressed on the breast plate. Other metal plates and parts are robustly soldered together, although the sword belt is also reinforced with a wire (please refer to the relevant photographs). Some of the parts are embellished with a variety of impressed patterns and decorative elements.

All pieces of the suit of armour appear present and seem undamaged, this figure may well have had a Halberd or Poleaxe in its right hand, though so few of these have come up for offer, that it is difficult to make an accurate judgement. The wooden pedestal is sturdy and robust although it has lost almost all of its original black paint and has a split at the back.

The overall condition is good, with age discolouration to the materials, minor surface scratches, and extensive superficial rusting that seemed to be originally applied to add the character and a feel of age.
