Do you have footage of loved ones, family and friends, special occasions, trapped on old video tapes? We can convert these long lost memories to a modern digital format such as DVD, USB or even as an online digital download, ready for you to enjoy all over again! We are able to convert the following video cassette tapes:

•  VHS / SVHS •  VHS-C / SVHS-C •  Video 8mm / Hi8 / Digital 8 •  MiniDV / HDV

If you are not sure what type of tape you have, send me a message and I will be happy to help you identify it!

New!  Do you have old video tape equipment such as VCRs or camcorders that are gathering dust? Why not use them as payment! Send me a message with the type or model number and I will let you know if I will accept them as payment, or for a heavy discount on your order!               Why Choose Us?

Unlike other sellers, we only use broadcast quality equipment to ensure the highest possible image quality for your output. Your videos are encoded using a high bit-rate encoder, which simply means there is more detail in the image. Others will sacrifice image quality and use a lower bit-rate encoder in order to reduce the file size

We think that your precious home videos deserve to be preserved in the best possible quality!

Technical Info:

All our transfers are carried out on studio grade VCRs, such as S-VHS machines with both line & field time base correctors (TBC). The video is then capture using high quality video capture devices from reputable brands such as Black Magic Design and Sony. Most other business who offer tape transfer services use very cheap 'EasyCap' / RCA to USB Video Grabbers. I have tested these devices myself and they give poor quality results, usually with artifacting, audio sync problems, stuttering, and interlacing errors. How it works

The process is simple!

•  Select your desired output media from the options above: DVD, USB stick (provided by us) , or Digital Download

•  Select whether you would like your tapes to be returned to you after the transfer

•  Select your tape type (You can add each tape type separately to the basket if you have both VHS tapes and camcorder tapes)

•  Type the amount of tapes you would like to be transferred into the quantity box (VHS tapes are charged per tape, up to 3 hours each, read 'Things to Keep in Mind' section below for more info)

•  Once you have completed the purchase, I will send you our address details so you can post the tape(s) to us

•  Carefully pack your tapes up and post them to us using the address provided. You can use any courier service you like. We would recommend Royal Mail Signed For

•  We will message you to let you know when your tapes have arrived safely and then begin the transfer process

•  When complete, we will send your chosen output format (DVD, USB or Digital Download Link) to you. Physical items are sent 1st Class. (If you have chosen to have your tapes returned, we will use a Tracked service from royal mail to ensure they arrive back with you safely)

It's that easy!

For large quantities of tapes, please send me a message and I can offer you a discount!

  Before You Order

•  Please inspect your tapes before purchasing, damaged/snapped tapes may need to be repaired before transferring can begin. We are able to fix most damage such as a snapped tape and cassette repair / replacement. Repair prices start from only £2.99 depending on damage severity, please send me a message for a custom quote.

•  Please check your tapes for mould. This is the most common problem that prevents tape transfer. Please check the inner tape for any white/grey specks. A clean tape will be completely black. We are the only seller who can clean mouldy tapes, but do charge an additional fee, so best to check before you place an order. You can find our listing for mould cleaning here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254774330715

•  Please double check that your tapes are recorded in 'PAL' (on a UK/EU camcorder/VCR). Tapes that are sent to us in 'NTSC' (Recorded on US/JP camcorder/VCR) may incur additional fees due to requiring different equipment. We can cover most tape formats in NTSC, but please send us a message first so we can check your tape type.

Things to Keep in Mind

•  If your tape is longer than 3 hours you must add 1 to the quantity for each 3 hours on the tape. So a VHS tape that is 5 hours would need to be counted as '2' when entering the quantity. 9 hours would be a quantity of '3'. If you are not sure of the length, just pay for 1 and I will let you know if it is any longer than 3 hours once it arrives and you can then pay the remaining fee. Most tapes have a run time up to 3 hours, so unless they are recorded in LP (long play) mode, you should have nothing to worry about!

•  DVDs come without a case in order to give you the best value for money. They will be supplied in a plastic cover.

•  Digital download files are delivered as an 'mp4' file type. This is the most widely compatible file and should play on nearly any device. We leave the video footage interlaced to match the original. Please message us if you need your tape deinterlacing.

•  If you have any problems with your files or would prefer a different file format, please send me a message and I will be happy to organise it.

•  Multiple orders for USB drives will be supplied on a single USB stick. We will select the appropriate capacity USB for your files, usually from 16gb to 128gb.

•  If you choose not to have your tapes returned, we will keep hold of them for at least 2 weeks. This gives you time to check over your transfer, and in the unlikely event of an error or mistake we can re-convert your tape(s) and send you a replacement. After this period, unwanted tapes will be erased and then either disposed of, or kept in storage to be used for spare parts and repairs for other customers.

•  If you send a tape that is damaged and are not willing to pay for the repair, we will return it to you and issue a partial refund, retaining just enough to cover the return postage costs.

•  We will always use Royal Mail Tracked service to return your tapes, in the very unlikely event of them getting lost or damaged, we can not be held responsible for Royal Mail's service. However we will send you a replacement DVD/USB for free. We keep your transfers for at least 2 weeks as a backup in case such an event occurs, so you will thankfully not lose your precious footage if the tapes do go missing. I can easily make a new DVD/USB for you.

•  Prices for the return of your tapes cost more for VHS/ VHS-C tapes as they are wider than MiniDV/8mm tapes and therefore have to be sent as a parcel.

•  We will strictly not transfer any material that includes illegal, adult, or copyrighted content* (*unless permission from copyright holder is given)

Frequently Asked Questions

If you can't find what you are looking for or need any other advice, simply send us a message and we will always be happy to help!

How long will it take to complete my order?

The transfer time can vary depending on our current volume of orders. On average, we complete most small transfers within a week of arrival. Sometimes we can even transfer individual orders on the day they arrive! If we have a lot of orders in, it could take around 2 weeks. Larger orders will of course take more time to complete, as well as orders that require repairs or cleaning.

Please ignore the estimated delivery date that eBay states, this is done automatically and is not correct. I will message you an estimated delivery date once we have finished your transfers.

If you need your transfers done urgently, then send me a message and we can discuss if it is possible to meet your deadline.

How do I post my tapes to you?

You can use any courier you prefer. We would recommend sending your tapes with Royal Mail. At the Post Office, we would suggest asking for a tracked service, such as 'Signed For', or 'Special Delivery'. These services are tracked to further reduce the risk of your parcel getting lost along the way.

Some couriers allow you to order online and your parcel will be collected from your home, which is ideal if you are unable to get to a Post Office.

Other sellers are cheaper, what is the difference?

It is true, there are some sellers offer the 'same' service but at a cheaper price, but are you really getting the 'same' service? Think again! The method our competitors use is usually much inferior. They use domestic vhs players found in charity shops with very cheap 'USB Capture' devices. I have used and tested multiple types of these devices and the results were very poor. Low quality hardware, resulting in a pixelated, compressed video. Not to mention the technical issues such as incorrect de-interlacing and dropped frames.

So how does your transfer method differ from other sellers?

Our method uses high end machines and equipment, manufactured for studio and broadcast use. We also use 'time base correctors' which stabilise the signal, and the resulting image is captured losslessly to a computer. We then encode the raw video to your format of choice. Our method takes much more effort and time than most other sellers, but the results speak for themselves. We have years of experience and fully understand the equipment and formats, and we are always investing in new machines and experimenting with new methods to achieve the very best results out of your videos. Is it really worth saving a couple of £ and risking your priceless tapes with an inexperienced seller who found an old VCR in their attic? We think not!

If you have any doubts, please read through our feedback for real customer reviews. We are extremely proud of our work and take great care to achieve the best results possible for all our customers. A very premium service for a very competitive price!

I am worried that my tapes will get lost or damaged in the post.

We completely understand this concern, but please be reassured - since we started this service over 2 years ago, we have not yet had a single parcel go missing. We have had minor issues such as customers putting the wrong post code or street name on their parcel, resulting in delays while Royal Mail redirect the parcel to us, but they have always got here eventually. Another problem has been poor packaging, where parcels have ripped or opened in transit, and have had to be repackaged by Royal Mail. So as long as you double check the address, and securely wrap or box your tapes you should have nothing to worry about!

What is tape mould?

Tape mould is the same as any other mould that you might find in a damp or humid environment. If your tapes have been stored in an attic, garage, shed etc then there is a good chance they have developed mould over the years. You can usually see this by looking at the inner tape on your cassette, if there are any white specks on the black tape then this is mould, and will have to be removed before we can transfer it. The mould acts like glue, and sticks the fragile layers of tape together. If you tried to play the tape as it is, there is a good chance it will snap when it reaches the contaminated area. As the machine pulls the tape out of the cassette, it tears where it has been stuck by the mould resulting in a snapped tape. The mould spores can also be hazardous to inhale and cause damage to delicate parts of video tape recorders and players. This is why it is very important for us to clean tapes safely before transferring them to avoid damage to health and equipment.

How do you clean tape mould?

We are currently the only seller on eBay, and one of very few worldwide who offer mould cleaning, and we do it in a safe, and careful way. We do not take advantage of this however, we believe we charge very fair cleaning fees considering the work and time involved.

The cleaning process involves dismantling your cassette tape, and removing the inner reels of tape. We then need to very carefully manually unwind the fragile tape from the spools and free the stuck layers from each other. Once the entire length of the tape has been freed, we run it along an alcoholic cloth using our custom built machine. This cleans the tape by removing and killing any mould residue, but does not damage your tape or video in any way. If anything, it will improve it as the mould would clog the machine and block the signal from being read if it was left. We will clean your tape several times if the mould is particularly stubborn until we get a satisfactory finish. Once clean and dry, the cassette can be re-assembled and is then ready to be transferred. Using our carefully refined and precise method, we have successfully cleaned 1000's of tapes so far!
