This was my late Fathers he had a real passion for 1960-70s British Clocks and loved to restore them back to there original glory. This is from his own collection of rare 'METAMEC' Clocks(time pieces),he spent hours stripping them down to the component parts and cleaned polishing all the brass and the wood etc, and refurbished the original electronic movement, and fitted a new flex and white 3 pin plug, so to last another 50 years plus. He was a retired hands on Electrical Mechanical Engineer working on mechanical and electrical Computers & Tabulators back in the day so he loved repairing and restoring Clocks in his later days(bless him). It is in a lovely condition and keeps perfect time. It is 8.5 inches long by 6 inches tall by 2.5 inches deep and is 738 grams and is well over engineered made with a Brass base and Oak looking laminate with a 4.5 inch dial, white face and brass hands and numbers, that looks really good, a real retro looking 1960-70 Clock that will give years of service It has a nice soft pleasing soft sound when running. Metamec was a manufacturer of domestic clocks in the second half of the 20th century, and was based in Dereham, Norfolk, England, and The name "Metamec" is derived from "metal-work and mechanics". The company started as an offshoot of the furniture manufacturers Jentique in about 1941 which made boxes for instruments and bombs during World War II. The first Metamec model was a mains powered mantle clock numbered "701" (approx. 1947). All clocks produced by Metamec were produced to a high standard, and the factory expanded with the purchase of new machines to allow them to create their own movements, rather than import the movements in from other clock companies. The factory increased in size during the 1960s and 70s, and employed approx 750 people, producing 350 models of clock, and producing 25,000 clocks per week. They became a manufacturer of the now iconic large 'Sunburst' chrome, teak and brass clocks. Metamec was the largest clock manufacturer in the UK at the time. The company declined in the late 1980s due to penetration by the German clock industry and imports from the Far East. Metamec went into receivership in December 1984 and was purchased in January 1985 by FKI of Halifax,West Yorkshire, who continued to use the name until 1993. The Metamec site in East Dereham was run by Ross Consumer Electronics until the closure in 1994. I have taken a number of photos so you can see it in all it glory,or if you wish you can come and see it at my home in Bexhill-on-sea East Sussex before buying. I would prefer it to be collected in person as these clocks don't travel very well and that way you can see it in all its glory working etc,or it will be very well wrapped up in a strong box and sent via a good courier. Note:I am selling all my late Fathers collection of clocks over the next few months so please look at my other eBay items if your interested. Thank you for looking and your interest.
