Four Chinese trays from around the 1920s are carefully enamelled with three shou symbols, three upside-down bats, central peony , butterflies and ripened fruit.The shou character signifies longevity. and is based on a peach pit and associated with the god Shou Hsing,who governs longevity.There is a tradition in Chinese culture of peaches themselves being the fruits of immortality, thus adding further symbolic significance to the shou ideogram. The upside bats between the Shou symbols is a pun on the word  ' arrived ' and therefore means 'blessings have arrived '.It is also a symbol of good luck and happiness. The peony flower  is a symbol of good luck. All with chips .Two broken and restored. All fitted with removable wall hangings. Diameter approx .13.5 cms 13.5 cms.Stock number 1634
