Made by Coronet in Birmingham, England, the Captain is a 120-roll film box camera introduced in 1955.

The Captain is a simple box camera designed for capturing 6x9cms pictures. It is constructed in two parts. The front is made from ribbed Bakelite with a decorative metal front plate and the rear is a metal box with a nice ribbed plastic strap.

It was produced after the main Art Deco period and has green horizontal stripes in a triangular shape on the front plate. The ribbed Bakelite body front has two chrome diamond pattern viewfinder hinged covers over two brilliant finders for landscape or portrait photos.

It has a fixed focus 115mm meniscus lens plus close-up lens with an aperture of f/16 and two shutter speeds of Instant (1/40 sec) and Bulb with a tab on the side to pull to switch between speeds.  A built-in green filter can also be pulled into place by an additional lever on the side. The green filter can be used for photographing plants, separating the green foliage from brightly-coloured flowers.

There is a two-position sliding lever below the lens that controls the focus. In one position, focus is between 3ft and 9ft whilst in the other, the focus goes between 10ft and infinity.  This model is synchronised for flash connectors on the side and comes with its original flash unit which is in excellent condition. Due to the lack of bulbs, the flash is untested.

The two finders are both clear, the lens is fungus free, the bodywork is in very good condition and the shutter is in working order. The interior is clean and tidy with the 120 take-up spool in place.

Uses 120 film (not included) producing eight 2¼” x 3¼” (6x9cm) images.

Comes complete with carry case with strap for the camera.
