You will love our holiday cottage, set in a small hamlet 1/4 mile (on foot) from Garrigill village centre. The whole family were involved in converting an old derelict barn into an award winning 4* cottage. We were able to make it cosy, comfortable, 'a home from home', while keeping some of the historic features of what we now know was an old bastle house. This listing is for a three night weekend or four night midweek break. When you arrive you will find tea and coffee and milk so you can have a cuppa after your journey, plus some biscuits for you and some for your dog if you are bringing one. We always have freshly laid eggs, from our own hens, in the cottage for you. We recommend a walk to Ashgill force, finishing off with a pint or a cuppa in the George and Dragon inn. The post office and general store in Garrigill is open most days too. Alston has two small supermarkets, two petrol stations, wholefood shop ( you must try their cheeses), butcher, Moody Baker, outdoor shop and gift shops, plus 4 pubs, five cafes, two hotels. The streets are cobbled and many tiny lanes can be found leading off the main street. The ITV version of Oliver Twist was filmed in Alston with a couple of Catherine Cookson films produced in the vicinity too. It is probably easier to list than describe everything (hopefully) that you need to know. 3 bedrooms, One on ground floor which can be twin or superking.
