Original 1969 Early Vintage BIBA Navy Blue Red Ditsy Print Maxi Cotton Dress S 8. This dress has been cherished, and is utterly gorgeous; a true iconic piece of fashion history. It's such a head turner, and I got so many comments when I wore it last...I've actually broken one of my cardinal rules and pictured myself wearing it, as I wanted to show how wearable and amazing it looks on! I purchased it from a local vintage dealer for a scary amount of money; even the really tatty (which this is not!) early BIBA dresses fetch ridiculous amounts of money online, so grab a great bargain whilst you can! The dress is in a heavy weight cotton, featuring very fitted bodice styling and dinky little bobble button fastening to the front. The side zip (metal) is still in perfect and smooth working order, and the zip seams are in amazingly good condition. The ancient elastic in the puff sleeves was perished, as you would expect in a garment around 47 years old, so I had it replaced before wearing it. I've also had any loose seams stitched, but this is invisible on the outside of the garment. There are some old repairs to the back of the waist that are slightly visible, although nothing that prevents this piece being instantly wearable; rare indeed for a dress such as this! The actual fabric itself is still sound, and there is no marking at all to the underarm area (see pictures). The original BIBA label is intact. The 'fat' font of the lettering on the woven label dates this dress as one of the first produced by BIBA, which would place it around 1969, as these woven labels were phased out in 1970. I wore this as a UK size 8, and you can get a good idea of real fit by looking at the pictures of me actually wearing the dress (I am 5ft 8' and am wearing high heels in the photo) but do ask for specific measurements if I've not not noted a dimension you require. Please note - this is a GENUINE SIXTIES VINTAGE ITEM, and despite being professionally cleaned, will have the distinctive 'aged' feel about it! In addition, tiny or insignificant imperfections are to be expected in a vintage piece. It is however, sound, clean and ready to wear.
